1st Grade
Course Description:

Visual art for kindergarten through grade 1 is based on the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards for Visual Art.  Students first encounter visual art at the kindergarten level as an integral part of a variety of creative and developmentally appropriate experiences in art making.  Art concepts are taught through activities based on the elements of design:  line, color, shape, texture, space, and form.  The purpose of these activities is to help students develop awareness of, and appreciate for, the skills in communicating through art.  Through exploration of varied media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles and sculpture, students learn basic art making skills while developing critical and creative thinking skills.
